President John Dramani Mahama has extended heartfelt condolences over the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing his death as a great loss to Kenya, Africa, and the world.
In a message on his official Facebook page, Mr. Mahama conveyed his sympathy to President William Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga family, and the people of Kenya.
Raila Odinga died on Wednesday, October 15, at the age of 80, while receiving medical care in Kochi, India. Reports indicate he suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Odinga was a towering figure in Kenyan politics and a lifelong champion of democracy. Despite five unsuccessful presidential bids, he played a vital role in shaping Kenya’s democratic landscape, including the introduction of multiparty politics in 1991 and the enactment of the 2010 constitution.

His leadership during the post-election unrest of 2007, a time of national turmoil and bloodshed, remains one of the most defining moments in Kenya’s recent history.
Tributes have continued to pour in from across Africa and beyond, as leaders honour Odinga’s enduring influence and his commitment to justice and democratic governance.
