Government approves a 9 % salary increase for public-sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure from January 2026.

  • The government has approved a 9% increase in base salaries for all workers under the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC)’s Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the period of 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.

  • The adjustment follows negotiations between the government (through the Ministry of Finance and FWSC) and organised labour via the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and other worker-union representatives.

  • In addition to the salary increase for public-sector workers, the national daily minimum wage will also rise by 9%, bringing it from GH₵ 19.97 to GH₵ 21.77, effective 1 January 2026.

  • The government described the move as part of efforts to reward public-sector workers, sustain industrial harmony, and strengthen economic recovery amid improved macroeconomic indicators (such as declining inflation).

  • Labour leaders welcomed the agreement, but cautioned that the benefits could be eroded if new taxes or tariffs were introduced, and emphasised the need for timely and full implementation of the agreement.
